No More Trach

The Trach is gone! Yesterday at about 1:20 PM Yolanda removed Peyton's track and she has been doing well ever since. Now don't get the idea this was some barbaric ritual Yolanda was participating in, but in fact a well supervised procedure. Peyton's Doctor came in yesterday morning, while I was there, to check on Peyton. He just observed and talked to us for a little while. He told us that Peyton is so smart and is not going to be very easy to reason with her and that at this point it was going to be mind over matter as she didn't need the trach and it was actually making it harder for her to breathe having that tube taking up space in her windpipe. He said he would return around lunchtime and did return around 1:00PM. Peyton was in her crib playing and having fun with Yolanda. The Doctor told Yolanda just to take it out, of course, Yolanda needed a little convincing, as would anybody, that it would be okay, so without interrupting Peyton's play Yolanda unsnapped the chain and took the trach out and quickly hid it. Peyton went about her business as if nothing had happened. When I got there later in the afternoon, she was still wearing the mask, which provided humidity, over the trach hole, it is just a comfort thing now, but she was fully aware the trach was gone and we expect the hole will close up in a day or two. She was doing fabulously well, running around her room playing and making real baby noises. This has just been so exciting for Yolanda and I and that fact she avoided surgery has just made it even grander. Now, next big hurtle is to monitor her over night to make sure her stats stay strong and if her stats are good and Yolanda feels comfortable we can go home, as early as today.
